ABOUT Quoit at Cross VINEYARD
Find Out Who We Are
Established in 2019, Quoit-at-Cross Vineyard is home to 2,200 vines nestled amongst the upland hills of the mid-Devon countryside. We aim to deliver the highest quality wines and are due to launch our first signature sparkling made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier grapes in 2024, along with a still Bacchus, and a Rondo/Pinot Noir rosé.
Our historic site in the charming village of Stoodleigh has been farmed by the Hill family for almost a hundred years, and our family-run Vineyard, just 3 acres in size, aims to continue this tradition through diversification. Due to our south east orientation, altitude and unique setting, we enjoy panoramic vistas across the Devon landscape, overlooking the Exe valley all the way to the Sidmouth Gap. We are accessible just 20 minutes from the M5, with the bustling market town of Tiverton visible from the vines. From simple beginnings, we soon hope to welcome you to tours, tastings and a range of creative events and workshops.
Our Story
Owner Tim learned his trade whilst living and working in the Margaret River region of south west Australia. Small in size compared to other wine growing regions of Australia and only accounting for 3% of the country's exports, the region is known internationally for producing almost two-thirds of the countries high quality fine wines. Tim spent two years here working in various Vineyards and the Wine industry in general. Moving back to the UK in 2018, he set about planning the creation of his own Vineyard on the family farm, a picturesque 90 acre farm, historically known for mixed livestock and arable farming, his sights were set on creating Stoodleigh's first Vineyard. Planting 800 Vines on a hot April's day in 2019, comprising of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Bacchus, Rondo, Pinot Gris and Seyval Blanc. For the next 3 years, these first vines served as a test area to assess the viability of the site. After a promising first few years growth, the site was extended in 2022 with a further 1400 vines taking the current total to 2200, and based on results from the test varieties, more Rondo, Bacchus, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were planted.
